How do I give Bavian instructions or set performance goals?
Updated 20 October 2026
You can tell Bavian what you want in a few places. Goals go on the Bidding page. Rules and preferences go in Memory.
Set a goal
- In Bavian, open the Bidding page.
- Choose The same goal everywhere, or Different per campaign to set a goal for each campaign.
- Pick a goal, such as A cost per conversion or A return on spend, and enter the number.
- Click Save.
Your choice holds until you hand it back by choosing Bavian decides and clicking Save. Goals need conversions to work, and Shopping campaigns can't use a cost per conversion.
Add a rule or preference
- In Bavian, open Context in the menu, then the Memory tab.
- Type the rule, for example "Always mention free delivery in our ads".
- Choose what kind it is, for example A rule to follow, and click Add.
Bavian follows your rules, but a rule doesn't lock anything. Its routine upkeep, such as keeping your campaign budgets within your total daily budget, still runs. Anyone on your team can add, change or remove lines in Memory.
Tell Bavian in the chat
In the chat on the Agent page, you can ask questions, correct Bavian or tell it what to do. It carries out most of the owner's requests straight away, but a new total daily budget always waits for the owner's yes.
Bavian's daily runs don't read the chat itself. They only see what's saved, so check for Memory updated → after you've told it something it should remember. To make a campaign stay on, paused or at a certain budget, Bavian may offer to make it a standing instruction: click Answer, then Yes, keep it that way.
Other places
- On the Budget page, write how you want the budget spent under How do you want it spent? and click Save changes.
- Before you start, click Adjust plan and budget on Insights and write what Bavian should keep in mind.
- The business details on the Context page, such as what you sell and who your customers are, guide the ads Bavian writes.
