What should I do with Google Ads recommendations when using Bavian?
Updated 19 October 2026
Leave them to Bavian. Google's recommendations are suggestions for your account, and Bavian weighs them as it manages it. When it agrees, it makes the change itself, and it may dismiss one it decides against. The Agent page shows why.
Switching off auto-apply
When you turn on Autopilot, Bavian switches off Google's auto-applied recommendations for your whole account, so Google doesn't change your account on its own alongside Bavian. It checks every night and switches them off again if someone turns them back on.
Bavian can't switch off some of the newer settings. If the Activity feed on Insights says some are still on, switch them off in Google Ads:
- In Google Ads, open Campaigns, then Recommendations, then Auto-apply settings.
- Untick everything that's still ticked, and click Save.
Applying a recommendation yourself
If you apply a recommendation yourself in Google Ads, Bavian treats it as your own change, like any other change you make by hand. For example, a budget recommendation you apply usually raises your total daily budget. See Can I make changes directly in Google Ads while Bavian manages the account?
Optimization score
Google's optimization score can drop when recommendations aren't applied. It's Google's own estimate, and Google doesn't use it for Quality Score, so a lower score isn't a problem in itself.
