Bavian

Why does Bavian say my Shopping ads use Google's own CSS when I have a CSS partner?

Updated 22 October 2026

Bavian shows the CSS that Google reports for the Merchant Center account connected to your project. A CSS, or comparison shopping service, is the company that places your Shopping ads on Google in Europe. If Bavian says your ads go through Google's own, Google doesn't list your CSS partner as active on that Merchant Center account.

Check it

  1. In Bavian, open Connection and look at which Merchant Center account is connected, by name and ID.
  2. Compare it with the Merchant Center account your CSS partner works with.
  3. Open the Shopping page in Bavian. If your project advertises in the EEA (European Economic Area), Switzerland or the UK, it shows the CSS Google reports for the connected account, for example No CSS partner or CSS partner: followed by the partner's name.

Common reasons

  • Your CSS partner runs your Shopping ads from another Merchant Center account, for example one they created for you under their own account.
  • The switch to your CSS partner isn't finished, or was never approved in Merchant Center.
